Our Manifesto: Reimagining the Climate Action Landscape
We envision a future where stewardship of our planet is a collective effort, and diverse voices are central to shaping the policies and actions that will safeguard our world for generations. Inclusive Climate Futures is both our name and our mission: aligning communities to build climate resilience through collaboration and shared challenges like climate change, economic hardship, and housing insecurity. Our commitment to inclusion prioritizes disability accommodation, interfaith collaboration, and the recognition that climate justice is inseparable from racial and economic justice.
This moment calls for envisioning a new narrative—one that transcends the limitations of the current story. It challenges us to step boldly into the realm of imagination. Addressing the climate crisis requires more than reducing carbon emissions—it demands a profound transformation centering the communities most impacted by environmental harm. We challenge the prevailing narratives of climate accountability, disrupting the historically racist and colonial frameworks that have dominated environmental movements in Europe and the U.S.
Historically, the European environmental movement prioritized state power, industrialization, and profit, disregarding ecological balance or social justice. In the 17th century, as European nations depleted their forests, sustainability efforts were narrowly focused on timber management for economic and imperial agendas. These practices ignored the sustainable land stewardship of Indigenous societies, rooted instead in extractive models perpetuating inequality. This legacy persists, marginalizing non-European perspectives and prioritizing the interests of the Global North while excluding voices from the Global South.
To prevent global catastrophe, we must embrace a holistic approach addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequity. Biodiversity, though critical, remains underprioritized and underfunded. Inclusive Climate Futures advocates for a transformative vision where energy transitions pair with ecosystem restoration, ensuring a just and sustainable world.
We call on governments, the private sector, and civil society to honor commitments to nature restoration and invest in comprehensive strategies tackling these interconnected crises. Restoring the natural world must go hand-in-hand with restoring equity and justice.
Inclusive Climate Futures is a beacon for reimagining leadership in the climate movement. Together, we can create a future that honors the diversity of human experience and the power of nature, building a resilient world where inclusion and sustainability go hand in hand. Join us in shaping an equitable, thriving planet for generations to come.
